Unfortunately we had some audio issues when recording Allie’s speech. She shared some wonderful insights about midwifery care and differences between various providers care.
She strongly encouraged us all to write letters, and vote for people who support reproductive justice and are looking to actively support healthcare because of the inadequate supports at present (ie. local hospitals OB unit closed for the summer, wait times for gaining access to midwifery care).
She explained the various birth place options and having a preference for one over the other currently impacting the wait times as well. Pregnant people are often followed by family doctors or go to walk-in clinics or sometimes even the emergency department to receive prenatal care prior to about 20 weeks or more before a midwife/OB can take over care.
